Wild Betta Care After Arrival
What you should understand and do when your wild betta arrives from our farm.
Wild betta behave differently from most fancy betta. They are often more cautious, more easily startled, and more dependent on a calm, stable environment. Understanding their natural behavior from the start will help them settle far more smoothly.
- Color after moving: Wild betta may lose color after shipping or when moved into a new environment. In most cases, they need about 5–15 days to settle, regain confidence, and show their natural color again.
- Warm–water fish: Wild betta are tropical warm-water fish. You should use a heater whenever the weather is cool or room temperature is unstable.
- Very easily startled: Wild betta are easily startled. When stressed, their color may fade or become very dull. Once the stress is gone and the fish feels secure again, the color usually returns.
- Quiet environment: Wild betta do best in a quiet environment. Keep them away from heavy vibration, loud traffic, and constant movement around the tank.
- Indian almond leaves: Add Indian almond leaves or another safe tannin source to the water whenever possible. These help create a blackwater-style environment that feels more natural, reduces stress, and often improves overall condition and color.
• Float the bag and match temperature slowly.
• Keep lighting low for the first 24 hours.
• Use a secure lid — wild betta can jump.
• Begin feeding lightly only after the fish is calm and active.
• Watch breathing, posture, and color during the first week.
Important Note on Fish Color
Why the fish may look different between farm photos and your real tank.
Some fish may appear more blue or more green in photos depending on camera settings, lens behavior, and lighting conditions. In certain cases, a DSLR can shift the way metallic tones are recorded. Please judge color with some flexibility and understand that the fish’s appearance may look slightly different in person.
In addition, monitor brightness, water tint, tank background, and room lighting can all change how the fish appears to your eyes. This is normal for wild betta and does not mean the fish is unhealthy.
